Editorial standards

Everything here affects people's money and their care. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.

Primary sources only

Rates, thresholds and rules come from GOV.UK, the Department of Health and Social Care, the NHS, or the regulator concerned. We do not take a figure from another blog and repeat it. Every page that quotes money lists its sources.

Every figure carries a date

UK benefit rates and care charging thresholds change each April. Every money figure on this site is stamped with the tax year it belongs to. The current set is 2026/27 tax year rates, checked 2 August 2026.

Rates live in a single file and are injected into pages at build time. A rate cannot be updated on one page and left stale on another, because there is only one copy of it.

We do not invent data

No fabricated statistics, no made-up case studies presented as real, no invented reviews or awards. Where we could not find a source we would stand behind, we leave the section out and say why. There are places on this site where we explicitly decline to publish a number for that reason.

Rankings are evidence-based and show their working

Any "top 10" or "best" list on this site is derived from published CQC data using criteria stated on the page, with the date of the underlying data. We do not accept payment for a position in a data-backed ranking. If that ever changes, the page will say so prominently.

We distinguish what we know from what we infer

CQC publishes a provider's registered office address. It does not publish which areas a home care agency actually covers, or which funding routes a provider accepts. Where we do not have evidence, we say the information is not known. We do not present an inference as a fact, and an absence of data never renders as a "no".

We are clear about what we are not

Carevo is a connection platform. We do not deliver care, and we are not financial or legal advisers. Our tools give estimates based on published rules. Only the DWP can decide a benefit claim, only your council can complete a financial assessment, and only an NHS panel can decide Continuing Healthcare.

Review and correction

Pages that quote rates carry a named reviewer and a review date. We re-check every rate after the April uprating, and after any policy change that affects a page.

Accessibility

This is a site for older and disabled people and the people who care for them. We aim for WCAG 2.2 AA: real text rather than images of text, keyboard operable tools, visible focus, and sufficient contrast. If something does not work with your assistive technology, please tell us.
